PUBIC LIFT

A Pubic Lift also known as Monsplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces and tightens the skin and tissue of the mons pubis, which is the fatty area above the genitals in both men and women.

ABOUT PUBIC LIFT

The fatty tissue in this area protects the pubic bone and joint from injury, which are located directly behind the mons pubis. When this area becomes enlarged due to weight gain, pregnancy, or childbirth, it can be uncomfortable and affect the individual beyond aesthetic concerns. When the mons pubis begins to sag, it can interfere with urination and intercourse, as well as how clothes fit.

When diet and exercise do not improve the size or sagging of the pubic area, a monsplasty may be able to correct the issue. The goal of a monsplasty is to reduce and/or remove excess skin and fat in the pubic mons area.

The ideal candidate for a monsplasty procedure is unhappy with the size, shape, or excess skin of the mons pubis and is of a stable, healthy weight

During your initial consultation, your surgeon will evaluate your health and explain which surgical techniques are most appropriate for you, based on the condition of your pubic area. The surgeon will describe the procedure in detail, explaining the risks and limitations, making sure you understand the procedure as well as the scarring that will result.

Monsplasty procedures are performed at the Centurion Day Hospital under general anaesthetic and can be combined with other cosmetic procedures. Your surgeon will give you instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating, drinking, smoking and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medications.

We advise that you need to stop smoking two weeks before surgery and two weeks after surgery. This will help expedite your recovery period and encourage better healing on cellular level and to avoid unforeseen complications. After your consultation you will be provided with a personalised quotation based on the recommendation of your surgeon. While you are making preparations, be sure to arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure and if needed, to help you at home for a day or two.

Monsplasty procedures can take one hour in theatre. If a minimal amount of tissue is being removed, only local sedation may be necessary, however, if the procedure is more involved or is being combined with a more invasive surgery such as a tummy tuck, general anaesthesia will be required. If needed, a liposuction procedure will be performed to remove excess fatty tissue to improve contours post-operatively. A horizontal incision will be made at the upper edge of the pubic region. Underlying muscles will be raised and tightened to create a firmer, more defined pubic area. Excess skin will then be removed and the pubic skin will be pulled upwards into its new position. Self-dissolving sutures will be used to close the incision.

You are likely to feel tired and sore for a few days after surgery, but you will be able to mobilise post-operatively. Immediately after surgery, swelling and discomfort will occur. Prescribed medication can control most discomfort. You should expect to be back at work within one to two weeks after a monsplasty procedure, depending on the level of activity required. The first follow-up appointment usually takes place seven to ten days after surgery with a second to follow in six weeks.

Restrictions on physical activity for an additional five to six weeks depending on the extent of the procedure. A small drain tube may be placed to collect post-operative fluids and will be removed during your first follow-up appointment. Minimal swelling may still be noticed for several months post-operatively. Results are noticeable immediately but final results will only be determined after six weeks. Results are permanent but will be affected by weight gain, pregnancy or childbirth.
