Combat the Signs of Ageing With Facelifts

You can’t stop the hands of time, and eventually, all of us will experience the different signs of ageing. Rejuvenation treatments and creams can help to combat wrinkles and loose skin on the face, but if you wish to have long-lasting results a facelift might be your best option! Facelifts are one of the most well-known cosmetic procedures that have been proven to deliver exceptional results. Cosmetic surgery can be daunting, and understanding the process and purpose of surgery can help calm prospective patients’ nerves.

Why Choose a Facelift?

A facelift is also called a rhytidectomy and is a cosmetic surgery that seeks to provide patients with a more youthful appearance. This is done by reducing sagging skin and smoothing out wrinkles on the face. There is little that can be done to reclaim a loss of elasticity in the skin. And as we age, fat deposits tend to decrease in certain areas of the face.
Facelifts address these issues and get rid of unwanted excess skin. It should be noted that n facelift is not intended to treat sun damage to the skin, finer wrinkles or an uneven skin tone. Rhytidectomy is often paired with a neck lift surgery for even more stunning results.

Facelift Procedure

A facelift is performed on an outpatient basis by a cosmetic surgeon. The procedure is most commonly performed under general anaesthesia and can take up to 6 hours to complete. An incision is made close to the hairline and ears and the extent of the incision will be dependent on the desired results. The skin is then elevated and the muscle and tissues under the skin are tightened. A surgeon can also manipulate fat under the skin to create new contours on the face. Lastly, the surgeon will remove any excess skin and the incisions will be closed.

Facelift Recovery

After surgery, patients are advised to get lots of rest and keep their heads raised while sleeping. There will be some swelling around the surgery site for up to 2 weeks after the procedure. It could take up to 6 weeks to fully recover and the final results may only be visible after 4 months. Walking helps to stimulate blood flow and can speed up recovery, but patients should be careful not to over-exert themselves. Strenuous activities should be avoided for as long as the doctor recommends and most patients can resume their normal activities after 3 weeks.
A cold pack can be applied to the face for 10-20 minutes at a time, every 2 hours for the first 3 days to help the swelling subside.
