Breast Augmentation Surgery in Gauteng – Centurion Cosmetic Clinic

A common misconception about breast augmentation surgery is that the procedure is only capable of enlarging the breasts. The truth is that breast augmentation surgery is used to address a number of issues that patients may be facing. Women who have experienced a loss of shape in their breasts as they age as well as those with pendulous- or asymmetrical breasts can all benefit from this procedure.

So what should you expect from a breast augmentation surgery?

Firstly, you will have to consult with a surgeon. They will put you through an evaluation to determine whether you are eligible for surgery or not. If you live a healthy lifestyle you are more likely to be eligible for surgery. Unhealthy habits such as smoking can interfere with your recovery and pose a risk to the surgery as well.

Breast augmentation surgery can be performed under general anaesthetic and is usually completed within an hour. The procedure starts with the surgeon making a small incision in an inconspicuous place under the breast. Once this incision has healed the scar is barely visible. The surgeon then positions an implant under the breast tissue to change the shape of the breast and add volume to it.

What to expect during your recovery

Centurion Cosmetic Clinic performs breast augmentation surgery on an outpatient basis, meaning patients will be able to return home on the same day as their procedure. Once at home it is important to follow your surgeon’s instructions and keep to the medication that they have approved. Patients will experience swelling and discomfort for about a week after surgery, after which it should steadily subside. Medication will be prescribed to mitigate any excessive pain and reduce inflammation during your recovery.

Any strenuous activity should be avoided for at least a month after surgery, but patients are encouraged to gradually return to some of their normal activities, as this encourages the healing process. If swelling or pain persists longer than expected it is important to seek professional medical advice.

The wound should be kept as clean as possible for the first two weeks, after which you should be able to remove your bandages. Patients are also advised to wear a compression bra after their surgery to help keep the breasts in place and minimise the chance of an injury occurring.
